Ray Ferris is a trial attorney with experience as an advocate in both the civil and criminal arenas. 

Beginning in 1982, Mr. Ferris honed his courtroom skills as a prosecutor in the Roanoke City Commonwealth's Attorney's office, where he handled everything from traffic offenses to capital murder cases before both Judge and jury. 

In 1988, Mr. Ferris entered private practice as a partner in the firm that is now Ferris, Eakin & Thomas, P.C. 

His  practice concentrates in the areas of personal injury plaintiff's litigation, criminal defense and traffic defense.  He represents individuals, small businesses and larger corporations in State and Federal Courts located in Roanoke and the surrounding areas.

Named one of the Legal Elite among Criminal Defense Attorneys in Virginia by the Virginia Business Journal, Mr. Ferris balances aggressive advocacy and common sense tempered by civility.  He takes pride in maintaining a relationship based on trust with his clients and zealously protects their interests.

PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS:
In addition to the American Bar Association, Mr. Ferris is a member of the Virginia State Bar and the Roanoke City, Salem-Roanoke County, and Botetourt County Bar Associations. 

He also belongs to the American Trial Lawyers Association, the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys and the Virginia Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys. 

Mr. Ferris frequently lectures on criminal and traffic law for the VTLA and VSB.  He served on the Board of Governors for the Criminal Law Section from 1998 until 2002.

PERSONAL:
Outside the office, Ray enjoys spending time with his wife and three daughters.  He is an active member of the Roanoke Valley Rotary Club and serves as legal counsel to his church, St. Elias Maronite Catholic Church.

EDUCATION:
A native Roanoker, Mr. Ferris earned a BBA from Roanoke College in 1976.  Tending bar, stocking grocery store shelves and long term substitute teaching at Roanoke's Patrick Henry High School occupied his time as he traveled and sampled life before entering Law School at the University of Richmond in 1979.  Graduating in 1982 with his Juris Doctorate Degree, he returned to Roanoke to practice law.
